I wanted to know if there's any information regarding the PFD strength for Ferrero's 4th Division, IX Corps, at the Battle of the Crater. I presume it's buried somewhere in the O.R.s, but as far as I'm aware, most Union reports & returns of such matters only ever show corps level numbers, not divisional figures, unlike their Confederate counterparts. Could be wrong, could be missing something.

You need to visit the national archives in Washington DC. On the regimental level, every United States regiment had a what are called regimental papers. These papers include morning reports. The company is formed up for muster and the sergeants write down who is present and absent.
Would these at all be publicly available?
