I recently received a tintype, of what looks like it maybe one of the Charleston, SC troops. In the 1850 then Germen emergent units around Charleston adopted this type uniform for Gard use. Wen doing my research on the uniform I ran into an article by Joseph P. Robinson Published May 26th 2005 Titled "The American Pickelhaube" in this article he thinks that the Eagle plate 1841 may have worn on the helmet. I also ran into a wood cut of the Charleston SC 1861 civil war uniforms showing this type of helmet. In closed are copy's of the photo and wood cut. Thank you for your time Rodney
PS: THE PHOTO HAS BEN FLIPED TO SEE ORIGNIL DETALES

I always thought it was an attractive piece of headgear myself, (I may not have much company in that regard, however).
