Without commenting on the relative merits and demerits of any of the sites that have been posed for the new casino, here's the Harrisburg Patriot-News' comments on the utter inability of the Gaming Control Board to do what it's supposed to do.

Actually, I guess I lied. The editorial did state that the newspaper currently favors the license being awarded to the Gettysburg site. Comes as a surprise to me, since the same newspaper had printed an article about a month ago explaining that the Gettysburg site couldn't come close to offering what the Nemacolin site does.

It seems that the Gaming Commission has postponed the decision because none of the sites under consideration has received the necessary number of votes and is a "hung jury" so to speak. The composition of geographic diversity among the commissioners has the effect of making them local advocates. The recent slots licenses was spread throughout the state, whereas this is one license for a potentially more lucretative slots and table games casino. Getting a majority for any of the four or five different sites will be a trick.

If the casino is going to be put in an existing building and they are willing to put money into refurbishing it, Im not sure what the big crisis is.. Is it better to leave the building unoccupied ?

Isn't it still in operation as a resort/conference center?

Yes the facility is in operation, however I assume it is not as lucrative as a gaming operation would be. The friends of Gettysburg have used the conference center for their musters and have moved the location for next fall to another venue. I am guessing that the promoters of the Relic shows that use it will also be booking with other locations to be assurred of a viable contract and appropriate space. If the casino deal falls through will the already struggling resort/conference center loose these long standing events?
