Unit dues question.

I know in many of our reenacting units, paying dues are part of belonging, the little the insurances costs and then the rest of the money. Most unit dues are in the range of $20 to $40 a year per person, or somewhere along the same line, but for a family.
I know in my unit, dues are $25.00 for the year, per person, and this includes your insurance, and musket caps at all events, and 5 meals.
My question is this, what do other units charge for dues, and what does the money go for?

$25 which includes caps and meals for all events isn't bad deal at all...

Unit membership dues can vary widely... depending on what costs and perks may be associated. Most that Ive seen have been around and remained in the $10-$40 range.... The purposes of the fee has evolved over time... The part once used for postal costs of mailing out registrations and newsletters... now pretty much shifted to cover website related costs... Those related to Liability Insurance... group membership fee to umbrella organizations.... typically have remained as is...

Most will try to predict and set the fee so as to have some play funds left over.... Many will use those excess funds to help procure "Company" related gear... such as mess wares, flag, tentage, loaner gear.. caps, or powder purchase in quantity, to resale to members at bulk cost to help defray cost... preservation donation effort for some local cause.... Some units will determine what needs they have that year and vote accordingly what to use the funds for then... next year could be for something entirely different... Nearly every unit is structured slightly different... rarely find two that do the exact same thing... Just an opinion and observation...
