I have the privilege of metal detecting on a plantation site in the low country of South Carolina that was burned in Sherman's March. Besides the plantation home, there are breast works and both confederate and union campsites on the property. I've recovered artillery and cannonball fragments, bullets, buttons as well as personal items. Pictured below is perhaps my most unique find—two small pieces of wood that rang up on my Notka Impact and had some weight. When I opened them up, I was surprised to find a musket ball and a two ringer imbedded.
