If you were a true patriot, supporting the Northern war effort, and wishing to use "National Emblems" instead of "foreign" suits, then Union Playing Cards were your obvious choice. No doubt the company assumed popularity with the troops in the field would carry over into the civilian trade. I hope they didn't invest too heavily into their enterprise.

It's hard to find full sets of these and they're worth a bunch! In actuality the field of playing card collecting is big business. There's a restaurant near me that has a collection of cards dating back to nearly the 1400's. Most times you'll find the Great Mogul playing cards that are from Belgium in full decks. They're supposed to be period cards and come in different color packs blue and red if I remember.
