IMG_2482 (2).JPG These are a Union "C" Cavalry button(left), and a rare Union "R" Riflemen button which
used to be part of an Antietam relic board, and that is why it has a nail hole in it. The
C button has the extra quality backmark and the R button has a backmark which I
can not totally make out, but part of it has Baltimore in it.

Love it! I have buttons (non-dug, correct backmarks) from almost every state in the war now. They're fun, aren't they? (Gotta be careful for fakes, though...and they can be pretty pricey sometimes!

Yes, buttons are really nice, but I would not pay tons for them unless I knew
exactly what I was doing, and in the case of buttons...I am no expert!

One time I went to an auction a couple miles from my home, this was some
years ago, and there was a bag of old buttons near the sewing machine and
I found in there a Pennsylvania button and so I bought the bag for about $10,
and when I got home I found 3 little minty "AVC" cuff buttons in there. I wasn't
sure if they were good or not, but they turned out to be. Gave one away and
sold the rest 'cause I was not into buttons,

Neat buttons! Just thinking about how many escaped collection by being discarded or misplaced over the years. There is probably a huge amount of artifacts that were disposed of with the thought "throw away that old junk, I don't why the old man kept it" by those with little conscience for our heritage. Maybe some folks just didn't know. Maybe there is tenfold still to be discovered in attics, barns, etc. We can only hope and pray that any newly found relics are saved.
