Hello
I am new to this forum and after spending some time looking around I felt compelled to join. I made a purchase in an auction today. I kind of did it on the blind. My main hobby is collecting U.S. Currency. The subject that spin off of that one hobby is almost endless. It's unavoidable to become a history buff.
The problem is that I have not collected this type of items nor do I really intend to. If anyone here is knowledgeable in this area your help would be deeply appreciated. My ultimate goal will be to sell of trade these items to put towards my currency collection.
From the auction description this is an "artillery uniform, hat, jacket and trousers".
That's all I got. Please feel free to add to this description.

Sorry. I've got the hang of it now!

Welcome to the forums! I am not an expert but this appears to be a model 1855 artillery shell jacket, I've seen originals listed for anywhere from $1000-$3000 depending on condition and provenance. The kepi does not appear to be regulation and could possibly be a fraternal cap like the Knights of Pythias? I have no idea what to make of the "trousers". More images would be appreciated.

The jacket looks to be original surplus/unissued. The machine top stitching on the cuffs leads me to believe that it could be the product of Cincinnati Depot. Check for inspector and size marks in the sleeve linings. The kepi is post war, ditto leggings/trousers/whatever they are.

We are going to need a whole more that that one auction photo. There are many things involved in these items. Once you get it if you could post some photos of the jacket liner, sleeve liner, buttons holes, button back-marks, hat and hat interior liner etc will be a BIG help for ID'ing this piece. I don't like to give any value based on photos just if its CW period or not and these items are key in determining the authenticity of any uniform.

I like the look of the shell jacket. I am far from an expert, and you to have an expert to look at it. You can also take some very good and detailed photos and post them on here. There are experts on here who will be able to help you out.

Just from the one picture that you have posted you have:

  • Artillery Shell Jacket from the Cincinnati Arsenal (when you receive there should be make & inspector marks in sleeve lining along with size). I believe it to be Cincinnati, as the Schuylkill Arsenal pieces were hand sewn.
  • Jacket: regulation issue artillery uniform (shell) jacket with red piping on cuffs, collar and seams, ten to twelve button front, fully lined, maker and inspector mark in sleeve - fair $2,500 good $3,300 I'd with wartime usage add 25-50%
  • Post war kepi NY Artillery fraternal
  • Post war spats or gators, at least they appear to be, not pants or trousers.

That looks like a heavy artillery top. Cannot vouch for the kepi or pants
Not for heavy artillery - they wore frock coats or sack coats; it's a shell jacket for light or mounted artillery. I can't see enough of either of the other pieces to have an opinion about them.
