"Underground," another well-made show from the underappreciated network WGN America, is at its best when it's hardest to watch.
The 10-episode series, which begins on Wednesday night, is a fictional account of slaves who try to escape a Georgia plantation just before the Civil War. A century and a half after that war ended, the real-life presidential campaign has made an issue of racism, both overt and implied. The most harrowing scenes in this series — degradations and cruelties both physical and psychological — are blunt reminders of why race-based hatred remains so entrenched. Superiority and oppression are addictive.
On the plantation, a slave named Noah (Aldis Hodge) yearns for freedom, and he and a core group of fellow slaves begin to piece together what they know about the outside

Thanks, John. Wish I had caught your post in time to watch.
Well, it didn't do me any good -- I dozed off before 9:30, and woke up at 3 a.m.! I usually don't fall asleep before 1 a.m. Now I have to try to find out if it's being repeated.

ETA: OK, just checked, it's being repeated at 10 p.m. tonight. Now, to stay awake for it ....

Good morning Jno! Don't you hate that? Dogs generally get indignant if we're not in the right place at the right time but sometimes this gets allowed. Problem being at 2 am everyone feels it to be morning, time for breakfast and general mayhem.

We missed it too, broke my foot again, number 6 for that one ( no, really ) will watch tonight. If it's too good will miss half anyway watching through fingers. Just reading any one account makes my toes curl. Was it incredible?

I found it odd that the one guy brought his son a baseball and Baseball glove as a gift, since baseball was practically unknown in 1857 and the glove was still 15-20 years away.

But the pistols looked OK, 1851 colts, and I didn't see any brass frames.

Hmmm. Looking like that's 10 PM central time.

I was looking for it, as well. Will try to check their schedule.

Is this the 9 o'clock news?. I just found their schedule, and it says Underground airs at 10 PM eastern time and is showing now.

Yep, you're right, it's the 9 o'clock news. The web-site that's streaming this must have an hour delay.
