Two American moms to remember today are Nancy Hanks and Sarah Johnston, both of whom helped shape the character of the man who would save the nation and become a major figure in world history.

Abraham Lincoln said of Nancy Hanks, "God bless my mother; all that I am or ever hope to be I owe to her."

His stepmother was also a major influence in his life, and Lincoln later attributed his "joyous, happy boyhood," to his stepmother's love.

Were it not for the thought, care, and love these two intrepid frontier women bestowed on young Abraham Lincoln, we would not be the country we are today.
