Trouble For Confederate Reenactors

There are many ways around a problem, especially if we seek to find it. I like carrying the historic state flag as a solution, because it gives groups a closer identity to their state. State volunteer regiments were all about their state identity. Robert E. Lee himself said "I am a Virginian.

Article links led me to a story about NC reenactors pepper sprayed during a parade. Article here.

I worry about the safety of these guys. At least during a CW-specific event, the (often) paying crowd understands what they are seeing. I would even argue that most expect to see a Confederate flag. As far as I know, no one has come to an event around here to protest.

But I would worry very much about guys carrying the flag in a parade with the general public.

Following the shooting, and further focus on the CBF, I suggested that reenactment groups would best serve their purpose by adopting their state specific battle flags when operating in the public arena. As mentioned elsewhere, in a sound-bite society, perception is everything, and unless the reenactment groups want to get sucked into the vortex, they will have to adapt. The CBF is now synonymous with all things evil, and there is no going back on this. It is time to fold it up in the public arena.
I agree. Why do not reenactors simply carry their regimental flags, designed by the soldier's women and with regional significance?

The whole point of hecklers is disruption, leading to violence. Defuse situations when possible.
