Trivia Game # 56 - Week 1


Time to begin a new game. New players are welcome to join the game at any time, but the first week of any game is always an especially good time to join.

Here are the questions for Week 1 of Game #56:


1. Who arranged to place a time bomb aboard a barge loaded with ammunition at a federal supply depot in August 1864?


2. A Medal of Honor recipient, he was captured at Drewry's Bluff and imprisoned in Richmond and elsewhere. While being transferred to a prison further south, he and three others jumped from a train and spent almost seven weeks behind Confederate lines before reaching freedom. He later wrote a book about his imprisonment and perilous escape. Name him.


3. "Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves"; you'll get about 4,000 hits on that phrase in Google. In Ohio, 150 years ago, another Lincoln, along with others did free a runaway slave from slave catchers who had grabbed him. The ensuing prosecution of those who freed that slave became a national controversy. Name the runaway slave that the Ohioans freed.


4. Organized in May 1862, this Louisiana unit was not generally known by its official designation. It fought in the Battles of Springfield Road and Port Hudson and took part in the pursuit of Grierson's Raiders. What was this unit called?


5. What was a "Griswold"? (be specific)
