Trivia GAme # 46 - Week 6

I'm sorry I was not able to post the questions for Week 6 last night. There was a thunderstorm and a power failure at my house.

Here are the questions for Week 6.

26. Confederate Gen. States Rights Gist received training as a lawyer at what Northern law school?

27. What was the only Southern state having two state military schools at the beginning of the war?

28. What educational institution was relocated from Maryland to Rhode Island during the war (and later returned to Maryland)?

29. What famous Confederate general alienated his father-in-law, a staunch Unionist and a college president?

30. (Two point question) What Georgia city's St. Stephen's Church had Union soldiers pour sorghum syrup into the organ pipes, so that the organ couldn't be used to signal Confederates?

My apologies for being so late in scoring this week's questions. I drove off to a neighboring state and my car broke down there. Just made it back home this evening.

The answers to the questions for Week 6:

26. States Rights Gist attended Harvard Law School for a year.

27. My source said the only Southern state having two state military schools was South Carolina, with The Citadel in Charleston and The Arsenal in Columbia. The latter was destroyed by fire in 1865 and never reopened.

Several of you said Virginia also had two state military schools. If any of you can provide a source to validate this answer, all of you will receive credit for it.

28. The U.S. Naval Academy relocated to Newport, RI, considered a more secure location than Annapolis because the latter was so close to the Confederacy.

29. Stonewall Jackson's first wife, Eleanor, was the daughter of Washington College President Dr. George Junkin, a staunch Unionist who was no doubt dismayed at his son-in-law's becoming a famous Confederate military leader.

J.E.B. Stuart's father-in-law was Union General Philip St. George Cooke. While the two were undeniably alienated, as far as I've been able to find, Cooke was a career military man, never a college president.

Rooney Lee, like Stonewall Jackson, had two wives, but I wasn't able to find any evidence that either of his fathers-in-law was a college president or a Unionist.

30. The syrup was poured into the pipes at St. Stephen's in Milledgeville, the capital of Georgia at the time.

Because I am so late posting the answers this week, the deadline for appeals will be extended to 6 PM EDT Thursday.
