Clarification on question 19

The source from which I drew question 19 indicated that the leader of the Confederates about whom Cincinnati was so worried was a colonel.

I have since discovered that, in fact, the man had been commissioned a brigadier general some time before the expedition in question started.

SamGrant, Sarladaise, and Ginefur4 all named the commander I had in mind. Since their sources evidently agreed with mine, they will receive credit for their answers.

Rad2duhbone53 and Robert B. Condon both named men who were, in fact, colonels serving under that commander on that expedition. I commend both of you for digging up this information and you will also receive credit for your answers.

Jamieva submitted no answer to the question. Jamieva, if the information that the commander was, in fact, a general at the time helps you to answer the question, feel free to submit another post with an answer for question 19.

Anybody submitting answers after this should be advised that I will expect you to name the general commanding the Confederate troopers.

16- Nelly Marcy married the 'Young Napoleon'- US Genl George Brinton McClellan;

17- Va Governor and CSA Genl Henry Alexander Wise;

18- Confederama- Chattanooga Tennessee;

19- Threat to Ohio- CSA Genl John Hunt Morgan;

20- CSA Genl 'Prince John' Magruder burned Hampton VA to keep it from being used as a 'contraband' runaway camp by US Genl BF Butler.

Welcome to our newest player, Jamieva.

Here are the answers to the questions for Week 4.

16. Ellen married Union general George McClellan.

17. Henry A. Wise signed the warrant for Brown's execution.

18. The Confederama is at Chattanooga, at the foot of Lookout Mountain.

19. Cincinnati feared an attack from troopers led by John Hunt Morgan, who were moving east from Indiana. Morgan's raiders actually bypassed Cincinnati, riding between that city and Hamilton, OH, to the north. As noted earlier, when I composed the question, I was looking at a source that said Morgan was a colonel at the time of his July 1863 raid, but other sources indicate that he was commissioned a brigadier general in December, 1862. Although John Hunt Morgan's name was most prominent on the minds of the Cincinnati authorities, I accepted the answers of Basil Duke and Richard Morgan, both of whom were colonels under Morgan's command during that raid.

20. The coastal village of Hampton was destroyed. CSA General John Magruder ordered the residents evacuated and their houses burned, because he had heard that Ben Butler was planning to use the village to house escaped slaves.

There are no changes at the top of the scoreboard, as SamGrant and Robert B. Condon continue to lead the First Division with perfect scores and Rad2duhbone53 continues to lead the Second Division.

The scores at the end of Week 4:

FIRST DIVISION

Robert B. Condon 24
SamGrant 24
Sarladaise 23

SECOND DIVISION

Rad2duhbone53 21
Ginefur4 19
Texaswildcat 19
ewc 12
20thMass 6
Miss Markie 6
Brandklipparen 5
Jamieva 2
