Here are the questions for Week 4 of Game #32.

16. Who was the editor of the New York Tribune during the Civil War?

17. What nickname was given to Union Col. John Wilder's brigade of mounted infantry because of the speed of their advance toward Hoover's Gap, TN?

18. What Civil War battle is known by a Cherokee word meaning "River of Blood?"

19. Union Maj. Gen. William Rosecrans' Tullahoma Campaign was a success, as he succeeded in forcing Braxton Bragg to abandon the city of Tullahoma, TN, but Rosecrans' accomplishment received little attention in the North. What two events, occurring at approximately the same time, stole Rosecrans' thunder? (You must name both events to get credit.)

20. (Two point question) What former Nashville newspaper editor did Jefferson Davis appoint to command troops sent to East Tennessee in 1861 to put down a pro-Unionist movement in that area?

Answers to the questions for Week 4 will be due by 6 PM EDT on Saturday, July 23.

Good luck!

I will be doing some traveling on Saturday, so I will not be able to grade the responses for Week 4 or post the questions for Week 5 as early as I normally do.

I expect to post the questions for Week 5 either Saturday evening or some time on Sunday.

16- NY Tribune editor- Horace Greeley;

17- Wilder's brigade became known as the Lightning Brigade;

18- Cherokee 'River of Blood'- Chickamauga;

19- Rosecrans' masterful campaign manuevring Bragg and the Confederates out of Tennessee was eclipsed by Grant's capture of Vicksburg and the repulse of Lee by the Army of the Potomac at Gettysburg;

20- the Nashville editor is CSA BG Felix Zollicoffer, who was killed at the Battle of Mill Springs (Kentucky) Jan, '62.

Glad to be back!! Hopefully things will settle down enough for me to resume playing regularly. And...Wonderful news, hoosier- Sidney Crosby will be a Penguin. HaHa. Here's me doing the Sidney Crosby Dance... :veryhappy :veryhappy

All of our players this week scored a perfect five out of five, but here are the answers, anyway.

16. Horace Greeley (Go West, young man!) was the editor of the Tribune.

17. Wilder's brigade was known as the Lightning Brigade.

18. In the Cherokee language, "Chickamauga" means "River of Blood."

19. Rosecrans entered Tullahoma on July 3, 1863, the same day the Battle of Gettysburg ended and the day before Grant took Vicksburg.

20. Felix Zollicoffer, last in alphabetical order among all Civil War generals North or South, was appointed by Davis for this duty despite limited military experience. The luckless Zollicoffer was subsequently killed on January 19, 1862, after losing his way and wandering into Union lines at Mill Springs.

The scores after Week 4:

RaggedRebel 22
Texaswildcat 19
Sockknitter 17
SamGrant 15
RivrRat 14
Cpl. Lewis 10
Calicoboy 9
ewc 6
Robert B. Condon 4
Idlewild 2

Aside to ewc - that is indeed good news. The Penguins picked the right year to get the right ping-pong ball.
