187th Airborne - Just something you might want to look into is replacing the barrel band with the band made for the use with the Buffington sight. It has a higher front profile which protects the sight ladder from damage when entering the carbine boot/saddle scabbard. Field trials quickly showed the ladders were getting caught on the lip of the boot and being folded backwards as the carbine was shoved into the boot. Companies like S&S, etc., may have one available.

If your barrel band looks like this, it's the 1885 change 'dished' for your Buffington sight (for serial # 294,000 & after).

The 1890 Carbine band with the protector was offered as a replacement item, was available after Trapdoor production ceased.

187thAirborne - I apologize if you misunderstood my post! I was only explaining the use of the protective barrel band, and not by any means suggesting you should be using a Carbine boot!

Noting your WW2 items I must post pics on my M1 D (sniper) grand and my converted Remington 1903A3 to an A4....
M1D has original M84 scope and A4 has the all All Weather scope (I think) using a Redfield mount.
