Tool Tuesday; coffee

Our coffee at work was execrable. A Vietnam War vet showed me the trick they used of using a pinch of salt on the grounds when making a pot. It really removed the bitter taste from the coffee. It changed our lives! (o.k., a bit of hyperbole there); the transformation in flavor was astonishing. We used salt when making coffee every day on every pot made at work thereafter.

We've taken to using it here at home when making our coffee.

No, not at all. It removes the bitterness and blandness by enhancing the coffee bean flavor during brewing. We could tell just by the aroma and then of course the taste if we forgot to use the salt when making a pot.

Literally just a moderate pinch of salt is sufficient. I thought the vet was messing with me at first. I would've never believed how such a little thing could dramatically change the taste of coffee!

I confess I have never heard of eating coffee grounds mixed with bacon grease
When you are hungry nothing goes to waste. I've had them mixed with eggs, fried up then mixed in with army beans and simply fried up in bacon grease. I suppose it's like a lard sandwich... not something I'd travel too far to try but when hungry food is food.

Okay - I gotta try this. Should I tell the husband or just spring it on him blind?
