Nice Digs. Thanks For Sharing.

Those caps are amazing, they look almost new. Are they a common find? I haven't seen many originals. I wouldn't think there would be anything left of those after 150+ years.

If you get on the right sites, percussion caps can litter the ground like leaves.

I agree with you on the oxidation (or lack thereof).... copper and brass water finds come out looking gorgeous.

Here are some percussion caps (and other relics) pulled out of a site affiliated with Republic of Texas & Mexican War actions - surface finds in the area feature that beautiful verdigris/oxidation that I like so much.

Yes the caps were found in the water along with the drops. There were all together about 6inch deep in the gravel bottom of creek. About 1ft away from a large rock (car size). When i was dighing the drops and caps i could just picture a soldier standing behind this rock scared to death dropping some caps and bullets as he was trying to reload..just the way i think lol

I hardly ever see the caps, and that Republic of Texas and Mexican War relics are something I just never see. I am surprised you didn't run into any Cotton Mouths. Not unusual to encounter them in small creeks, and other water bodies around here, plus the usual assortments of Copperheads and Timber Rattler's. We are just so lucky here I guess. I hate them worse than ticks or chiggers. When I lived out east, we mostly worried about ticks and chiggers.

Went out again today and still finding a few things a couple of fired minie balks and this thing any idea..
