This is a great image. Couple questions mabey someone could help with? These fellas look spam am era . How long was Tipton taking photos? And it has a number above devils den. Was this a order number? Could we find out who these men are? One has a medal, SUV? It almost looks like a relief corps medal, or perhaps it's a military medal. And lastly check out there first sergeant!! prim, proper and all of 18 years!?! Looks out of place with this bunch of men. Everyone has fatigues and he is in his dress! Perhaps his father father fought here and he felt it was appropriate? We may never know. But that is why I love period images/photography it speaks so much louder then mordern pictures. It is among my favorite cabinet cards!
