Hi this is my first thread/question on this forum. I've recently become interested in the civil war and have decided to join the ACWS in the UK. Over the last few weeks Ive tried to research tinned food in the civil war and their labels but I keep coming to a dead end. has any body got any information on this topic or even better pictures of original labels etc.
Many thanks
Andy

Hello Andy, welcome to the forums.

Sullivan Press sells period correct labels, along with many other items of the era.

Thank you to everyone who has replied. I'll have a look at the food section of the forum as well as the links provided.
That's great.
Cheers
Andy.

I print labels that I found on the internet several years ago. Unfortunately, I can't find what I did with my File! However, I made a boat load of photocopies, which I have been using ever since.
On a Facebook Civil War site, I have seen someone selling modern cans of food with the very SAME labels for a price far above what the can and it's contents cost!
I wish you well in your quest! My advice: keep "Googling" Civil War cans, can labels, etc.....they're out there, ya just gotta get lucky and find them.
Sorry I am not much help!

Hi Albert.
That would be ace! Yes if you save it as a file on your computer then when you create an email there should be an attach button. This then allows you to search for the the file saved on your computer and attach it to an email.
I have two email addresses either : [email protected] or [email protected]
the latter is my works email. I'm a headmaster of a school in the UK.
That'd be great if it works.
Thanks again

Just saw this thread. Welcome to the forum. There are several threads in Food Forum on canned foods and early ones that were canned at this time.

Search Canned Foods , Gail Borden, Underwood Deviled Ham. These are a few threads.

I really need to do a more detailed thread on foods that were canned.

under the name "Eagle Brand Condensed Milk" and is still sold today. The Borden plant was a boon to local farmers who converted their farms to dairy production to satisfy the huge demand. The product was shipped nationwide by rail. Coal for the boiler house and tin cans was shipped in to the plant by rail. A portion of the original milk plant has been preserved by its present owner, the Pawling Corporation, which maintains a visitors center in the building.
