Member Review Timothy B Smith at Kenosha WI

Wish I could be there. Post pics from the event please.

Kathy, thank you for sharing the news about this event. I look forward to your photos.

David

I wish they would record it but then why should anyone pay? He has some utube videos out there

The Civil War Museum in Kenosha is a gem and they've held some excellent lectures which you can find on YouTube. I totally agree with @Championhilz about Timothy B Smith, you are in for a treat.
I go to the Museum about once a year. I would join but it's about an hour away. When I saw Timothy B. Smith was coming I was excited. I really enjoy his books. He adds so much incidental material that fleshes out the story, like the bios and pictures of the generals in the Champion Hill book. It opens the door to further reading and makes the characters more than just names.

The museum is having a full day program featuring Timothy B Smith speaking about Vicksburg
September 23
I'm still mad at him for saying that Halleck got the idea of sending Sherman downriver to attack Vicksburg from Grant. 😂

Did Lincoln get the idea of sending Pope to Gordonsville from McClellan too?

Technically, if that happened it would - again - have been Halleck, since he became G-in-C effective July 23 and Lincoln/Stanton were no longer doing that job after July 23. That's why Pope was reporting his movement on Gordonsville to Halleck on July 30, August 3, and August 5. Not sure he needed to get the idea from anybody because the Confederates were at Gordonsville. Not too many options involved ... :D:D:D

He said Grant was on his own and made command decisions on his own to his credit unlike Pemberton who had two masters to answer to.He had the mission of conquering Vicksburg and Halleck was in Washington.
No one seemed to think much of it at the lecture. I don't think Halleck has too many present day fans.
