After staying at the Kalamazoo Civil War Muster today for a couple hours I decided to visit the Michigan Military Heritage Museum in Grass Lake Michigan. Nice museum with tons of military uniforms but not too much from the Civil War. They are doing a special on WWI and have about 50 WWI uniforms on display. While there I saw some signed art prints for sale and bought a few. What do you think of Tim Kurtz as an artist? Here is a print for the 1st Michigan Infantry (must be the First Michigan Three Month Volunteer Infantry).
The signed print appears to be "cut" from a larger work and reprinted as a uniform plate. I am not sure what I think of the uniform. Here is an image of the 1st Michigan Infantry. Note the company letter on the front of the cap, and also note the slit pocket on the right between the 5th and 6th button (image is reversed so in this image the pocket is on the left). Also note the artwork appears to be missing the epaulets. This makes me question the uniforms in the other prints. I did not pay too much for the signed prints so in the end I am happy I purchased them. Does any one have the larger art work the above print appears to be "cut" from?
