Lot of news stories out there about rabbits running into soldiers - typically they end with the rabbit being part of dinner. This one has a soldier saving a rabbit's life.

That's a great story - guy got a new BFF! Any port in a storm. :D

Not too far off the topic, the environmental impact of the CW (plus the aftermath) brought about the conservation/national parks movements in this country. Didn't even have to be a fight, either - a large body of men moving through the countryside was devastating all on its own.
