I'm not sure of his source for this but he is known for his accurate portrayals.

The article states that "Gens. Ulysses Grant and William T. Sherman rode on Grimsley saddles." I wondered what kind of saddle General Lee rode. A Google images search shows Lee also rode what appears to be a Grimsley.
