Hello,
Several years ago I got some help here (or on some other Civil War forum - not sure) regarding one of my ancestors. In my fuzzy memory, I seem to recall that someone was able to tell me when he joined, and when he left. I now have another ancestor whom I just figured out was in McGehee's regiment - Thomas Simpson - and I'm hoping to find out the same info.
Can someone help me out with that, please?
Thanks,
Loralee

Loralee,
By McGehee's Regiment I understand you're referring to the unit also known as the 44th Arkansas Mounted Infantry (and sometimes designated the 29th Arkansas Cavalry.) The National Park Service's Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Database (http://www.nps.gov/civilwar/search-soldiers.htm) shows a Private Thomas Simpson in Co B, McGehee's Regiment. Per another website (http://www.couchgenweb.com/civilwar/mcgeheb.htm), Thomas Simpson enlisted at age 24 in Cotton Plant, AR. Company B was organized in Woodruff County. The unit was organized in the fall of 1863 and disbanded late October 1864 after serving in Price's Missouri Expedition and taking heavy casualties. There are apparently no rosters for this unit so exact muster/enlistment and discharge dates are unknown.
