This was found in a Union trench on a high ridge over the Chattahoochee River. This trench was the bridgehead established after the Confederates had retreated across the river. It is hard brass, and the diameter is aboutthe diameter is about 5/8'. Any of you ever found one of these in associated with the Civil War?

What do the letters around the base say? This was a common way to advertise. You see it often on aluminum thimbles of a later period. With that information and the fact that it is a brass thimble you might get a time period and a geographic region for its origin. (Google it!) Then you can get an idea of whether it was brought from home, picked up from travels during military service or comes from a later time period.
