This 1954 movie is loosely based on the St. Albans Raid. In The Raid escaped Confederate prisoners go on a raid to avenge the burning of Atlanta. Some major actors, Van Hefin, Richard Boone and Lee Marvin. One can add Anne Bancroft. I wondered what people thought of this move.

Someone posted a link to the film recently in a post on 'best civil war movies'. I'd never heard of it, and decided to take a look, not having any idea what it was about. It had me on the edge of my seat throughout, and I still don't know all the facts as they relate to this raid, but in the movie they got away with their 'dastardly' deed...which I didn't expect (being so deep in 'enemy' territory). The fact it was an old film didn't detract from the story for me, and it was a real nail biter. If I could find the post, I could point you towards the link...unless you've already watched it. In that case I'd be interested to know what you think
