Once again, local pronunciation and subsequent mis-spelling strikes the writer. This 'Pink Nardle' was actually the Pink Varble # 2

After learning the meaning of the word 'nardle", I am more than a litte amuzed by the mistake and a little disappointed that this wasn't actually the name

Me too. It's classic. I wonder how the newspaper reporter came up with "Nardle" to replace "Varble." And how do you end up with a first name like Pink? Was it a family name? Nickname?

Perhaps a distant relative of Roger Waters', Pink Floyd from "The Wall" LOL

His name was David Pinkham Varble, and he usually dropped the "David". So, it was a nickname for Pinkham Varble.

And, of course, I got it wrong (d*mn short term memory!). It was Daniel Pinkney Varble

You were close enough. We now know where Pink came from.

Oh, dear.

Seconded. I couldn't stop the giggles, but sadly I suspected it was too "good " to be true.
