No, one version has it that both burned on the stocks somewhere around 1 -3 February 1865, another says that one or both were completed as merchant vessels. Perhaps our colleagues (Andy?) could solve this one.

Hi John,
Just backtracking again. IS IT KNOWN where these two ships were building? It seem the first version is some what strange, why would an ironclad and all those Davids be untouched? You would think that these vessels would be burned first instead of burning two unfinished hulls.
There were plenty of such vessels burnt in the other ports when the Confederouts left'

Hi Grizz,
Both vessels were definitely under construction, all sources agree, except one which plainly confuses them with CSS Ashley & Cooper.
Class: Morgan class
Type: Ironclad Steam Sloop. Paddles: two Side-Wheels,
Guns: 8
Design: J. L. Porter
The constructor in charge may well have been Sidney Porter, who originally wanted to construct Ashley & Cooper to his 4 gun Charleston plan. John L ordered a modified Willink Milledgeville plan instead.
Builder 1: unknown at Charleston Sc. Construction details unknown, vessel burned 18/02/1865
Builder 2: Vessel under construction on Peedee River at Georgetown Sc , to use engines recovered from a blockade runner. burned 18/02/1865..

Hi Grizz,

Both vessels were definitely started, all sources agree except one which confuses them with CSS Ashley & Cooper
Class: Morgan
Type: Iron protected Steam Sloop. Paddles: two Side-Wheels,
Guns: 8
Design: J. L. Porter

Builder 1: unknown at Charleston Sc, Construction details unknown, vessel burned 18/02/1865
Builder 2: Vessel under construction on Peedee River , to use engines recovered from a blockade runner. burned 18/02/1865. at Georgetown Sc .

The constructor in charge may well have been Sidney Porter who wanted Ashley & Cooper constructed to his 4 gun Charleston variant. John L chose a modified Willink Milledgeville instead. It's possible that confusion was thus caused between the two sets of construction.

I do actually wonder if they were not burned, but completed as merchant vessels post war. The plan configuaration would certainly lend itself to that easily.,
