This is CA 1880 a copy (charcoal) of what we think was an original Civil War tintype.
We bought this at a local auction from a older couple in Pennsylvania, and the lady told us the story.
He was from Orrtanna, Pa. in Adams County, and his last name was Stonesifer, and he
was her G. G. Grandfather. He was in the Union army for a time from Adams County, but
he was not at the Gettysburg battle. She said that it was possible that there was more information
inside the frame. It measures about 16" X 20". Strange to say, but true, she looked in the face a lot like him.

History of Pennsylvania Volunteers, 1861-1865 lists two from Adams County that enlisted in 1864. Both enlisted and mustered out at the same time. Maybe brothers ? Five others from Adams County with this surname. One enlisted in 1861. The other four in 1862. Sorry, I thought we had narrowed it down, but 4 out of the remaining 5 weren't at Gettysburg either.

There is only one other thing to add that I can remember. Her first name was "Fannie", but
she did not remember her GG Grandfather's first name. Thanks all for the information!
Oh, and I did not look behind the frame yet, because it would tear up how the
picture was attached to the frame, and I don't know if I can get it all back right.
Also I doubt that there is any info. there.
