Went to Charleston last week and visited the CSA Hunley .
If you have not seed it. GO.
It is really there, under water, completely visible, with a great interactive display.
To think that everyone, and I mean all Three voyages of the sub. died .
No one ever survived a trip in the Hunley.

and they are Still there. it is a monument to bravery as well as one heck of a archeologic site .

I think three members of her first crew survived the sinking, and the six guys from the final crew were given a funeral with full military honors in a SC cemetery after their bodies were recovered. Even so, a couple years ago the History Channel did a show on the worst jobs in the military, and number one was to have been a crew member on the Hunley!

I watched videos of the burial of the Hunley crew. The procession of Confederate soldiers marching in Charleston, the military honors, the pagentry, the solemn occasion, etc. The history and the history being made. I had always been interested in the Civil War but kind of "let it slip" and put it on the back burner. This was a reawakening off sorts. And here I am!

I came in sideways - starting with the letters and diary of a sailor on the Housatonic. I'm probably one of the few who's more interested in the ship than the sub!
