The Fabulous 5 were down to 2 Saturday on our visit to Petersburg Battlefield the Saturday 18th. Billo and myself weathered the heat, although I sorta kinda gave out around 4 Pm. But it is always a pleasure to join up with those that can make it to these gatherings. But it was HOT!!

Bill and I both had seen the most of the battlefield some time or another, decided to start at Pamplin Park and work the brake through line which took up Saturday morning. I will post the pics as time allows.

You must permit a display of my ignorance. I'm digging your photos, but I am fairly well clueless as to where in the world you are taking these, so please caption them for people like me who don't automatically understand.
Thanks for the thread...just give me a little more info...okay?

Pamplin, where Reb-f took his photos, is south of Petersburg and covers a good part of the area where Grant broke through Lee's lines on April 2nd, close to Fort Gregg. It's a really neat place with a great visitor's center; one of the exhibits there has you standing on a virtual hi-fi battlefield with lines of soldiers firing at you from different directions, and you "feel" bullets whizzing by you from the special effect air blasts, and the floor trembles from the cannon blasts, etc. It also has great walking trails and a lot of the original trench works, some old houses and plenty of other good exhibits. I had the chance to spend some time there last winter on a business trip, and very much enjoyed it; would definitely recommend it if you ever have the chance to visit...

Did you read my #1 post? I couldn't have been more clearer.

Thanks for the explanation -- many of us hadn't the slightest idea what or where "Pamplin Park" was, or which battlefield was being photographed.
Looks like a great place to visit if I ever get down that way again.
Great pictures, Rebf'r!

Actually, what I see on my computer isn't clear at all. In fact, it appears to start in mid sentence and mid paragraph and contains no explanation or definition of "The Fabulous Five". If it had understood it, I wouldn't have asked. But it's okay. It doesn't matter any more. Private Watkins has given me the answer I needed. Nice photos.
