Welcome to the forum! Do you have a name with the photo? Yes most definitely post Civil War, not an expert on post war uniforms but I'm guessing 1870s, early 80s. If someone could clearly zoom in on his cap badge that may be a good clue to his unit.

As others have said, your image is most definitely post Civil War.
While far from an expert, I would not discount the possibility this photo might even from be the 1900 -1905 era.

But I'm sure our experts will correct me.

After scrolling through some post CW uniform images, it looks very similar to a full uniform worn by a US cavalry soldier during the Indian wars, circa 1870s. Am no expert on uniforms, though.

A clearer view of the insignia on the kepi might reveal definite clues as to his unit identification.

From other images viewed, have seen the upper character signifying the 'regimental number' and the lower character showing the 'company letter'.
