It was with the best of intentions that I sought to create what I thought would be an educational, informative, and pleasant Thread, devoted to the Manifest Destiny, Hyprocricy, and Capitalism prior to and during the Civil War.

It has been great fun for me, with the exception of last week's postings, and since I have been told that the Benevolence of Manifest Destiny thread will not be reopened, I would like to express my regrets and disappointment that what I believed was to be a learning experience for all, has come to a screeching halt.

But thank you to all who participated in the spirit that this Thread was intended, and who did so with humour and respect.

Dawna,

Thank you for starting such an interesting thread. It is a source of sorrow to many of us that something so intellectually stimulating should be brought to such an abrupt halt.

Let us be be in no doubt about what has happened here. A person or persons who have made their contempt for this thread clear have deliberately posted messages so inflammatory that they have caused it to be closed. That is how censorship works, in practice.

Imagine a football game in which the players start throwing punches with each other. And then imagine the referee throwing punches with the best of them. What do you call that? You call it a farce. Well, the Moderator of the board in question is the punch-throwing referee. What a joke. What a sick joke.

I am sorry, but this thread has already seemed to cross into the line of flaming.
