Texas Belt Buckle?

Thanks for adding me to group! Recently found this belt and buckle in old box of pre Civil War hand wrought iron, in Mass attic. Believe it is pre war Texas( I hope!). Very rare to find total , stenciled leather belt with buckle. Please help identify!

That's a great piece! I love the belt! The star does not Indicate Texas use. Louisiana Mississippi also used the star. I believe it's a pre war milita plate. But I'm by no means expert. I'm very excited to learn more! Welcome and again great piece!!!

Saw an example recently that owner trying to attribute to the Waco Guards. Who knows????

In "American Military Belt Plates " by O'Donnell & Campbell, they show similar belt plates on pages 261 and 262, identifying them as Militia Panel Plates from the 1850-1865 period, often found at Civil War sites both North and South. Reportedly marketed to any interested party with no particular state affiliation.

Very interesting plate. I've seen that style before. Definitely looks militia.

That is an absolutely killer militia belt and plate, in unbelievable condition, congratulations on a fine acquisition. The star is not indicative of any particular unit or state, these panel plates came in multiple designs. These rigs saw hard early use during the war and as such have a fairly low survival rate, in addition they were very fragile compared to their later decendants.

Awesome rig and there were several versions of this pre-war militia plate and your is my favorite. If I only had one word to add to what @Package4 said FANTASTIC Belt oh wait that's 2 words. Thanks for sharing this great find with us.

Nice. Attics are still giving up treasures. No telling what's still out there.
