Tents

Good to know. I want to make sure my gear is good when I get to that point. The wedges are correct though?
What is the impression? A lot depends upon that. What we know today as the Baker tent & Wall tent were in use as well as the French Bell tent & Sibley tents as well the wedge & A tent. The CS was chronically short of canvas by mid war and most tentage was nothing more than a large canvas tarp stretched across an upright. The tent cities you see at most re-enactments simply did not exist. The US did quite a bit better but even the US while on campaign didn't haul that much canvas.

Not sure where I am going with it yet. I lost most of my clothing to rats. The underpinnings where in the house so they survived. ($300 for a corset has made me guard the silly thing) so I have to start all over.

Sorry to grave dig this thread but thought maybe people would have some answers to my question here, though I think it already answered some of the questions already. For context I do early war and civilian Federal... and am always interested in odd exceptions to the rule so was curious when I saw the phrase French bell tent.

Don't be sorry that's why it's here. This is a "French" Double Bell Wedge.

I am trying to source if they were still actually in use in the Civil war. I do know these are more tents from the middle ages. It wouldn't surprise me if they were originally designed because someone got clever and connected two pavilion tents together
This is more of what a civil war era single bell wedge looked like

The most common though was the Shelter Half

at the start of the war.
