Tent signs, and regulations

I am wondering how non-regulation it would be to paint a sign for my tent saying "Songbird" so that people who can/wish to visit will know where I am? It would be small, and hang over the front upright on the tent, off the top.

Ideas?? I was so thrilled to have visitors, and appreciated the "hunt for Mrs.V" they undertook. It'd like to make it easier for anyone else who should happen by.

Hanging on my tent is a small sign that says "A. Sailhorst and Company".......I have seen photos and read letter/diary entries showing/mentioning such signs. Customarily, they identified a "Mess". For example, I've read where a mess might call themselves the such and such "Pan Company" and hang a sign on their tent to identify themselves as such.
I am in favor of you hangining your sign!

Indeed!

When I reenacted, I had a sign hung on my wedge tent that said "The Neil House" which was the name of a prominent hotel in Columbus, Ohio, during the Civil War.

Just because my first name was "Neil" had nothing to do with it!

So put your sign up and have no worries, it's totally authentic!

Here is the well known ambrotype of the Wigfall Mess, Complany L, 1st Texas Infantry. Signs could be found on tents as well as cabins.

Early in the war the Clinch Rifles, Company A, 5th Georgia Infantry had large letters CR stenciled/painted on the tops of their tents.
