I'm planning on heading to Chapel Hill, Tennessee the weekend of June 16th to see Forrest's boyhood home. I'd like to spend some time at Carnton and Franklin Battlefield areas, too. Anyone have any other ideas for quick "look see's" in the area. Tenatively planning Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the area. Thanks in advance.

Congratulations! I wish I could go back....be sure and note Larry's plaque on the barn (side facing the house). Be sure to do the Carter House and go up on Winstead Hill. Bonny and I went to the fort's remains as well. Between the two places, you can get a good idea of what Hood was facing.

Check out the travel forum, as usual....I think there are some good ideas there. Spring Hill is also a good idea....and Nashville....well as you can see, I could spend a month there!

Stones River is about 30 miles away. Columbia is just down the Pike and just a few miles west of there is St. Johns Church where Clenurne was first buried. It was established by the Polk family.

One overlooked area is Hoover's Gap. Just 17 miles south of Stones River, the battlefield is divided by I24 at the 97th mile marker. Also Wartrace deserves a visit along with Bell Buckel and the Blockade Runner.

Thanks, to all. I'll try to see as much as I can. I've been to Nashville several times and usually make Memphis once a year or, but this will be my first visit into this particular part of Tennessee.
