As one might expect, Tammany was the name of the horse of a politician/general from New York. Tammany was Dan Sickles' favorite.

I had heard that Sickles had another horse with the rather elongated name of "Grand Old Canister and Grape", but according to this website (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_horses_of_the_American_Civil_War&oldid=874170308), Sickles had two secondary horses, one named Grand Old Canister and another one named Grape.

If we have any Sickles fans around, perhaps they can shed more light on whether Grand Old Canister and Grape was/were one horse or two.
