Tamale Pie
1 tablespoon lard
1 pound hamburger
1 large onion, cut fine
2 cups sifted cornmeal
dash of Chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
6 cups boiling water
1 pint tomatoes
Make cornmeal mush. Cook until fairly thick. Then put a layer of mush in a baking dish (about half of the mush). In a separate pan put hamburger and onion in to brown. When well browned, add tomatoes, salt and chili powder. Let cook 5 minutes; and put in dish with cornmeal mush. Put the rest of the mush on top of the meat mixture. Lay 2 or 3 strips of bacon on top. Bake in hot oven 45 minutes. Serve with tomato catsup and crackers, pickles, and olives.
