Lincoln Tad gets a pony

The First Family's son Tad, receives a South American pony as a gift from Colonel Joseph B. Stewart, whom he met while visiting New York.

I suppose that photo must be right, but somehow that doesn't look like a 10 year old kid on that pony.
I think the baggy clothes make him look larger and older than we'd expect. Was Tad big for his age? I'm noticing that the rider appears to have a receding chin. Portraits of Tad in the LOC show him to have a small chin, especially compared to his father.
