I think I understand what they were trying to do. The brigade was in two parallel lines. Sewell's line wheeled and was now perpendicular to the front line like a disjointed T facing south. McAllister then about faced the front line, wheeled and tried to form a solid line.
Hard enough on the parade ground.
One thing that should be remembered is that many of these men had attend country dances were there was a caller. Some of the terms used were similar which made it somewhat easier for them. Something fairly foreign to our ears.
