It appears to be look alike week, unfortunately, no photos on this one... This "mascot" apparently thought the two men looked enough alike so that at bedtime wanted to sleep with the look-alike. Who was the "mascot" that wanted to be the snuggle buddy? (What's the "mascot's" name?)

Edit - Apparently, the correct answer is Jason the donkey. Several players have provided sources supporting that answer.

'Jason' the donkey was the mascot of the 3rd Louisiana. He was allowed to sleep in the tent with his owner (an officer) but sometimes he would mistake the commander for his owner and try to enter the tent of the commander at bedtime.

Jason the donkey!

That would be "Jason", the donkey mascot of the 3rd Louisiana. Jason's former owner was a Frenchman named Chillon who (the story goes) trekked across the USA from California to Louisiana and attached himself to the Iberville Greys, a Creole company that became Co. A of the 3rd. Having shared his master's tent for so many months and apparently finding a resemblance between Chillon and the Lt. Col. of the 3rd, Jason often pushed his away into the officer's tent to spend the night.

Presumably the officer was Lt Col S M Hyams who was forced out of the war by a debilitating disease. In 1864, on their way by steamer up to Shreveport, the 3rd paused at Lac des Mures, Hyam's plantation, where he provided his former comrades (those of them left) with a grand feast. Evidently the Lt Col was happier sharing a house with his wife and daughter rather than a donkey.
