I thought I'd put this here, rather than the Medical history thread, though it could as well be there.
The six volumes of The U.S. Surgeon General Photographs and Histories of Surgical Cases and Specimens, containing some 300 graphic photos and case histories of the most "interesting" (read 'horrendous') cases of wounds, injuries etc, almost all from the Civil War, are available online at: https://archive.org/search.php?query=photographs%20of%20surgical%20cases%20AND%20mediatype%3Atexts
Warning, not for the delicate.
These include brief case histories, naming the patient, regiment, and where injury was received, treatment, etc. This is an important and enlightening series -- not to mention sobering.
It also engenders a new respect for just how much Civil War era doctors could accomplish.
