Supper or dinner?

I sure as heck cannot make Pei Wei's kung pao chicken at home. I have seen the cooks fixing it, and it involves flames shooting three feet into the air.

Guess what's for lunch? Oh and it's considered a quick service place so there's no tipping... although my standard for tipping is 20%, though it may expand or shrink depending upon attitude and services rendered. My policy is to be really good to the people who handle my food, if you know what I mean.

There was a place in west Nashville long known as Pee Wee's, but I don't think he knew about kung pao chicken. Mostly imported beer (Budweiser). The beer came in sealed cans.

no sandwiches and pie were wrapped in waxed paper, sacks were recycled from the grocery store.
When I lived in Texas, I was in High school. In those days everyone took their lunch and there were no soft drink machines. So, we froze cokes, wrapped them in newspaper and hauled them off to school. By lunch they were mostly thawed and we had a good cold drink with our sandwiches.... well, it occurred to several of us that if you could freeze a coke, you could freeze a beer...so we did and for a good while, we enjoyed a good cold beer with lunch in the high school cafeteria.. That all came to a screechin halt when some brainless idiot brought a tallboy. When we saw what he had, no one would sit with him and none of us opened ours that day, but I am here to tell ya, all hell broke loose at school and later at home..

I didn't realize alcohol would freeze, that's interesting.

And nowadays the Hot New Tip is to freeze your drink so that it thaws by the time lunch rolls around. Everything old is new again? Despite my affinity for Chinese food, I do bring my lunch to work most days, though in a pink cooler, not a paper sack.

Alcohol won't freeze, but beer is mostly water and that will. Go flat, good lord that was 1962 or '63... memories are one thing but I ain't gotta clue!

Actually, I seem to recall that I froze one once, accidentally (was just trying to cool it down quickly) and it exploded in the freezer. But that was in a can. ya don't freeze glass. The cans in those days were sealed like soup cans of today. No e-z pop tabs. they were opened with a "churchkey" .. a metal opener that punched holes in the can...one main hole, one small air hole opposite the main hole..

good times...not necesarily, merely an observation of the idiotic things boys will do while learning to be men... in those days "boys will be boys" was an observation often made and for the most part, boys lived up to it

Are you sure you didn't go to my school? I'm tellin' ya, that sounds like that all-boy class I had three years ago......for sure.

No, Coke doesn't go flat, IMHO. I've done it before. I'm sure, because sometimes those old coke machines would be so cold the cokes would get pretty mushy....man, those were the days--work cattle and go into town to the store for an icy coke and fresh baloney sandwich at the meat market......they had the best baloney in the whole world. It was SOOOOO spicy it was almost like salami.

Breakfast, lunch, supper. But if we go out to eat in the evening, it's often called dinner. And for what it's worth, in Nelson's day in the Royal Navy, I believe the main meal of the day was always called "dinner".
