Hello All,

I found this thread a little while ago I collect some Confederate relics I just wanted to share my favorite piece it is Very rare you will probably never see another except in books If you guys are familiar with the Confederate Belt Buckles and Plates book by Steve Mullinax Expanded addition this is Plate 052 (Not to be mistaken with plate 053) Notice the irregular ring of stars there is like a few of these in existence it is less common than plate 053 and by less common I am talking by like 2 LOL! I have had this in my collection for about 20 years it was found on Private property a ways away from the Chatanooga Battlefield by the property owner in the 1940's when he was clearing some of his land! I have the paperwork for it I thought that you guys would like to see it because chances are you wont see another one the few there are are in private collections the plate 053 I believe there is one in the Confederate Museum and Hanover Brass makes a reproduction! The last one of these I knew of sold at an auction for 35K 2 years ago. it's a cool piece I am going to sell it sometime as it belongs with a collector that still goes to shows and such so other people can enjoy it! These are believed to be made by Memphis Novelty Works (Leech and rigdon) These are not the best pictures in the world but look at the abnormal stars sollowing the top right of the S those stars are touching and there are some bizare other stars on the ring I love the Patina thats one of the cool things about these Confederate buckles that have spent some time in the ground I have seen the same buckle found in 2 different areas around the same time have such different Patina A lot of it has to do with different minerals in different soils and of course the Confederate brass didn't have all the alloys of other brass as there were shortages in the south of basically everything!

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your buckle with us.
Thank you I thought you guys would like it I was thinking about selling it There is a big show in Franklin first week of December I am thinking about going there should be a lot of serious collectors out there I went to the show outside Richmond in 06 I believe it was I met a lot of cool people Old Dr Blackman looked it over real well and wanted to buy it so did several of his friends but I just got it and didn't want to get rid of it LOL! I don't prefer flying though it's a hell of a drive from OR to Tennessee in the wintertime so we will see if I actually go I have several other buckles that are more common this one is always a fun one to show people there are so few of them it's kind of a once in a lifetime thing for a collector to see or buy one this rare my crappy camera does not do it justice! Its One of the smaller ones I have seen from Leech and Rigdon it measure reef height 43 MM across is about 78 MM its a really cool piece there isn't much CW stuff that goes on in the NW it kind of sucks no one here to appreciate some of the cool stuff I have especially this! I found your guys group here and thought you would like looking at it!

Interesting Plate. Its hard to tell anything from the photos and on a plate like this and all the repops of them out there I would have to hold this one in my hand.

UCVRELICS it is real I got it from Jim Turner it has a letter from Steve Mullinax it is a favorite of mine the rarest I have ever had Rare doesn't really mean a lot to me I don't collect for money in fact my favorite piece is a basic fairly common as far as Authentic buckles go Virginia Buckle. I will post it it is the one on top it was found in Petersburg I like it because it is so used the C is warn on it many hard marches with something rubbing on it! If these buckles can only talk! The one under it is another fairly common Virginia buckle the bottom one was found in Dinwiddie Virginia the other ones are all the ones that I have sitting on my table right now notice the very simple yet fairly rare Leech Rigdon I have many buckles in myy collection starting to think I have a problem LOL!! that beat up Union one is the only one non confederate I have or ever have had I have lets just say a few CS ones LOL!!
