Suggestions on reference books

I am looking to expand my reference library without spending a fortune. I am specifically looking for suggestions for books on uniform buttons, insignia, etc. Any recommendations? I would also love to hear what books everybody else uses for all aspects of militaria from the Revolutionary war through the Spanish American war.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will see if I can find those books. Unfortunately I'm not ready to shell out the major money for Tice's book yet.

I guess you're right that is a very vague statemebt... I am mostly interested in uniforms, buttons, insignia, and headgear. I do have American Military Belt Plates, US Military Belts, US Army Headgear, Hats off, Army Blue, More Army Blue, Horsetail Plumes and Spikes, a Headgear book by the Smithsonian (the name and author escape me at the moment). If there are books about different award ribbons and medals that would be very interesting as well.

Albert's book is still available at a reasonable price, but since Mr. Tice died his book prices have gotten a bit high. Both books have their advantages, but Albert's book covers a wider period and, in my opinion, would be a great place to start. Then go for McGuinn and Bazelon's book on backmarks.
