Seen this today, apparently this unit is subsidized in part by the county. Hadn't ever heard of this before. It it fairly common or more unusual?

Several re-enacting units across the country are subsidized by various town, county, state and even a couple federal although those are borderline. Example would be the New Ulm battery out of MN which still has a couple of their original guns in the unit since 1864. At the Fed level the Army has the Old Guard which dresses some of their men as per Rev War Regs as well as the USAF fife n drum corps and the USN manning the USS Constitution in period uniform.

I thought the SCV may have subsidized a unit at one time and the NPS was still running a CS arty one at Vicksburg. Stones River has volunteers as well. Petersburg used to as well. A great job if you could get it!

1st Ohio Artillery Battery A might be one of those, now that I think about it. But, @drezac would know better.
In the past, when Battery A was first formed in 1989, we were 100% supported by the Ohio State House and the Capital Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB). Due do budget cuts, we later became a independent 501.c3 Educational organization. However we still have a direct connection to the CSRAB. The State house provides us with a storage area in their warehouse. Our Captain must be approved b y the CSRAB. We coordinate the use of the State House Cannon with the CSRAB, and they provide transportation for the Guns and assistance when we fire them on the State House grounds.
