I came across this picture of the stretcher that carried Stonewall Jackson off the Chancellorsville battlefield after he was wounded. It actually seems to be in fairly decent condition. I wonder if it was preserved after it was used to carry Stonewall... or if it was continually used to carry other soldiers...

Looks a great piece if the provenance is good.

I would imagine it was probably used again. Seems like a strange thing the preserve during a war when you are focused on fighting.
I wonder if it was used again... how it was it was kept track of through all the chaos. And if it wasn't used again, did someone recognize the significance of the stretcher and immediately try to preserve it.

Interesting. It looks like the outer layer of cloth has rotted away, leaving the inner core of canvas. They might have preserved it, more from a superstitious reason? Who knows??

No idea, it's the equivalent of the shroud of turin for the Confederacy
First find any blood or any DNA on it which can be traced to Jackson? Do electronic surveillance to find is his body left a imprint as with the shroud.Do a historical research to prove that this was in the area where he was shot.and that no other body was carried on this special one.find at least twenty witnesses that this is the one that carried Jackson then research these people to verify that they were present and that no one else used that stretcher .Then disprove all conspiracies which will follow. Then before this you must determine that this stretcher was of that period AND that the material was of that same period. Many a musem has been deseved.
