This isn't mine. Someone in my town found this at a yard sale and was intrigued by the date. Someone told her it was worth more as scrap metal than as a collectible.

I told them I didn't agree with that (and neither did they) because Colt Farm was near the Cordori (sp?) farm on the Gettysburg battlefield and the WW1 camp there was actually on the fields used for Picketts Charge.

She asked if she could polish it and I said don't touch it till I ask the experts.

I opened it and it seems awfully small for cigarettes unless they were tiny back then.

It appears to be what they called a "calling card case". Gentle polishing would not hurt it and the historical significance is somewhat high to those that value post war Gettysburg memorabilia. The only problem that I see, to my knowledge, there was not a Colt Farm at Gettysburg and Camp Colt was not established until 1918. Further research required.

Doing a little more research, this would appear to be related to Samuel Colt's Farm in Rhode Island and make this case fairly significant. 1916 would be the year the finishing touches were made to the barn and a mural of the farm was commissioned. I would look to see who was commissioned to paint and if the initials match.

Thank you so much @Package4! I've passed the information on to the person! This will be amazing for them.
